The Position

 

Edinburgh University Press produces over 180 new books and 38 journals each year with an emphasis on the Humanities and Social Sciences.

 

We are looking for an experienced Marketing Executive to provide maternity cover on two key book lists at our offices in central Edinburgh. You will be responsible for implementing the marketing strategy for your book lists. This will include monitoring budgets and sales targets, producing catalogues and leaflets, online marketing, attending conferences and market research.  

 

The ideal candidate will have 2 years’ marketing experience in academic publishing, be exceptionally organised and have with good dtp skills (InDesign). Confident verbal communication is essential, as is the ability to write well.

 

Terms

 

Maternity Cover: 8-10 months

PT position: 4 days per week

Start Date:  3rd November 2014

Benefits include a company pension scheme and 36 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) pro-rata. Salary will depend on experience.

Key duties:

  • Work closely with the Publisher to acquire new fiction projects through agents and submissions
  • Development of individual titles from receipt of material to finished copy
  • An understanding of costings, scheduling and production procedures
  • Present titles at monthly sales meetings and annual sales conferences
  • Effectively manage direct reports ensuring they receive appropriate training

 

Experience / skills required:

  • A strong trade record in a commissioning role in children’s trade fiction
  • A wide knowledge of the children’s books market and the ability to identify new trends
  • Previous experience of working with authors, agents and freelancers
