We have a great opportunity to work as an Associate Marketing Manager for a world leading publisher of books and journals in Oxfordshire. This is a maternity cover contract, working on Education, Arts, & Humanities journals.

 

Key duties:

  • Set and meet all usage targets for a list of journals
  • Plan, implement and deliver marketing campaigns
  • Build and maintain successful relationships through management of key Society titles
  • Create marketing collateral in support of campaigns, presentations and conferences
  • Line manage a team co-ordinators

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience planning and implementing marketing campaigns is essential
  • Previous experience of marketing within an academic publishing context is required
  • Prior journals marketing experience is highly desired
  • Prior line management experience is desired but not essential
  • Excellent communication skills are essential

Our client, a leading publishing outsource company, currently has a vacancy for a Books Production Editor to work with their client in Oxford.

This position will involve overseeing the production of new titles from receipt of authors’ manuscript through to delivery of the final product. The ability to work with budgets and negotiate prices is an important part of this role. The successful candidate will need to be competent in working with database tracking systems, adapting to new IT systems and also in proofreading and copyediting.

This will be a full time position working for our client,  but will require you to spend 3 days a week at their clients office in Oxford.

Key Responsibilities:

• Commissioning, preparing material for, assessing and managing external suppliers
• Liaising with authors, commissioning editors, project managers, freelancers, printers and designers
• Assessing the quality of artwork and sample pages prepared by authors/suppliers

The Company

Our client is a London-based organisation that aims to build a comprehensive online library of corporate training videos for all disciplines of professions. They have already filmed their first few training courses, with many more in the pipeline.  They are now looking to expand their Content Development team in order to significantly increase capacity over the coming years.

The Role

The Script/Project Editor will be responsible for working with the Instructors who include professional corporate trainers, business school professors and practitioners, in order to produce a script for each training course.  The instructors will provide the initial draft of the script for each course, which you will then use as a basis for preparing the final script. The script editing process will include conducting background research on the topic of the course, adding and removing content from the script as needed; polishing the language and tone of the script and producing storyboards and other supplementary materials that will later be used in the final editing of the course videos.

The Person

This is a very interesting and responsible role which will grow and develop, and the successful person will be of graduate calibre with some proven editorial experience within a professional/B2B/academic publishing background. You will have experience of working/interacting directly with authors in an editorial capacity and the ability to quickly research a topic and then prepare original text based on this research.  Some training or hands on experience in instructional design would be useful, but is not essential. You will need to be an organised person with a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken, confident in dealing with people, especially authors, and able to work to deadlines.

The successful applicant will manage and provide a quality editorial service for the delivery of content across a range of products and outputs. They will monitor amendments required for international adoptions and advise authors, panels and committees on editing, drafting rules and house style. It will also be their responsibility to support other editorial team members but providing editing and proof-reading services.

 

The Editor will liaise with the Product Management team for testing purposes and perform content checking with digital products. Additionally, they will liaise with copy editors, proof-readers and designers and build and maintain business relationships with internal contacts and external customers.

 

The ideal applicant will have demonstrable experience of content preparation for multi-channel publications and of editorial work on technical publications. They will have worked on the application of editing and drafting rules, author guidelines and house style and on ensuring the maintenance of digital content delivery systems. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential and they will be strong decision makers and have a problem-solving approach to their workload. Attention to detail is a key aspect of this role and the successful candidate will have an awareness and familiarity with word processing and typesetting software.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Acquisition Editor at a leading STM Publisher.  You’ll be responsible for the commissioning, and management of a range of Earth and Environmental Science titles. This role is based in either Cambridge or Oxford and would suit a candidate looking for the next step in their editorial career.

 

Key duties:

  • Manage a portfolio of STM book titles in Earth and Environmental Science
  • Commission and develop new titles both in print and digital
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure delivery on time and within budget
  •  Negotiate contracts with editors, authors partners and other parties

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Demonstrable experience in scientific publishing with books and/or journals
  • Prior experience commissioning STM books is highly preferred
  • Experience managing multiple authors and projects is required
  • Subject knowledge of Earth and Environmental Science is desired but not essential

Our client, a leading provider of science and health information, is looking to add a new Acquisitions Editor to their Books department in either their Oxford or Cambridge office. Reporting to the Editorial Director, the successful applicant will research, acquire, develop and publish new titles with a focus on commercial awareness. They will manage titles, identifying changes to be made and ensuring they have an in-depth understanding of the market trends.

 

In the role, the Acquisitions Editor will work towards securing signing targets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to budget. They will be strategic and confident with their decision-making, keeping all stakeholders informed of progress and working closely with colleagues to motivate and influence. The ideal applicant will have a strong customer focus and research skills with demonstrable experience in commissioning and managing multiple authors.

 

They will come from an STM publishing background and experience with either books or journals is desirable. They will be highly organised with excellent communication skills. Any knowledge of or experience in earth or environmental science publications would be advantageous though not essential. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially-savvy publishing professional looking to take their next step in a commissioning/author management role within STM publishing.
