We are currently hiring a Senior Marketing Manager who will be responsible for delivering marketing campaigns and supporting the digital strategy for a portfolio of journals which we publish on behalf of our 800+ societies and associations e.g. British Psychological Society & Institute of Food Technologists.

This involves developing and implementing agreed plans and strategies for each journal, acting as the key marketing contact for external clients and internal colleagues, compiling annual reports and updates and preparing for and attending editorial board meetings in addition to managing a team of 4 reports.

Senior Marketing Manager Selection Criteria:

> Previous marketing experience, including: implementation of marketing activities to schedule and within budget, a broad range of different types of marketing activity, the ability to analyse and interpret management information
> A creative and analytical approach
> Strong copywriting skills
> Competent at using Microsoft IT packages
> An ability to work as both an individual and a team player
> Comfortable with digital publishing technology and language
> The ability to pro-actively build rapport with a variety of people
> The ability to prioritise, time manage effectively and manage conflicting priorities
> The ability to use initiative, work independently and to complete projects to deadline without close supervision
> Educated to graduate level or equivalent, a marketing qualification would be desirable

Key duties:

  • Manage the peer-review process, providing guidance to authors, reviewers and editors
  • Provide admin support to the commissioning team, including promotional work and external activities
  • Improve systems when possible to increase efficiency and update all stakeholders on changes
  • Maintain accurate records of communications relating to manuscripts and keep contact lists updated

  • Deputising for the Production Editorial Manager, which could involve:
  • allocating suppliers as required
  • allocating work within the team as required
  • acting as a point of contact in the absence of the Manager and/or as required
  • attending meetings

The successful candidate will ideally have a proven ability for organization and negotiating, and book or journal skills from working in a production editorial environment. They will possess a good understanding of the prepress and manufacturing processes. The ability to work effectively under pressure and an aptitude and enthusiasm for working with new technology is essential.

Interviews are likely to be held w/c 29th September, this may be subject to change.
