Senior Editor (Maternity Cover)

Taylor and Francis (Routledge) are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to provide maternity cover commissioning and managing textbook titles on the law list.

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  •     commission new textbooks and new editions as well as online resources in law, largely aimed at undergraduate students in the UK
  •     people management of the team
  •     work closely with marketing and sales teams to help ensure successful sales of the textbooks
  •     represent Routledge at conferences and other events
  •     manage a number of editors commissioning in law
  •     help develop a strategy to grow the law list and communicate this to other members of the law editorial team
  •     liaise with the production manager and other departments to help ensure the success of the law publishing programme

 

The ideal candidate should ideally be able to demonstrate keen commercial awareness, and communication, prioritization and organizational skills. They will be driven to do well and willing to show initiative and take responsibility. You will need to quickly get to grips with the list and work towards meeting a demanding commissioning target.

 

Travel within the UK and overseas to attend conferences and visit universities is an essential part of this role.

You’ll do all this while balancing the priorities of our varied publishing divisions, able to identify what’s most important and see that through to fruition.

This role will suit someone with solid experience at Marketing Executive level, and ideally some exposure to international customers. You’ll be juggling different projects and priorities so organisational skills, attention to detail and a proven ability to work to deadlines under pressure are key, as is the ability to work creatively.

 

You’ll be working with lots of different people so being able to connect with people, internally and externally, and build good relationships is key.

On top of the usual MS Office skills, a working knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign would also be a real plus.

Commissioning Editor

A fantastic opportunity has arisen in a leading legal publisher in central London for a talented Commissioning Editor in the Product Management department. This role will be responsible for the commercial management of a portfolio of legal publications in terms of both product revenue and performance.

 

You will be accountable for the commissioning and delivery of content across a range of media from print to online. Relationship building will be absolutely key in this role as you will need to build and maintain high-quality relationships with authors who tend to be high profile within the legal arena, including members of the judiciary and partners in top law firms. Essential Job Responsibilities:

  •  Plan, manage and execute on overall strategy and daily operations
  •  Manage the new publishing programme which includes: Identifying topics and authors, cultivating author relationships, creating a network of free lectors and influencers
  •  Develop a first class process and ensure timely release of publication products
  •  Introduce and represent Nicolai Publishing at relevant institutions and establishing strong, enduring relationships
  •  Lead and coordinate sales and marketing activities
  • Required Qualifications:
  • A degree in humanities or social sciences, post graduate degree preferred
  • An innovative thinker who can tap into current trends (or create them) and identify new markets
  • Nil admirari. Nil timere. Nothing to admire. Nothing to fear.
  • Extensive publishing experience working with authors, defining topics and building author relationships as well as managing the whole publication process
  • A proven track record of turning ideas into books
  • Excellent people management skills and a first-rate communicator
  • Good commercial and financial understanding
  • Fluent in English and German

A trade publisher is looking for a Purchase Ledger Clerk. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong numerical skills and an interest in Purchase Ledger processes. This is a full time, permanent role based in their South London Office.

 

Key duties:

  • Ensure purchase invoices have been raised correctly and authorised

  • Input purchase invoices onto the MS Dynamics system

  • Update and maintain the book coding structure and internal management cost allocations

  • Resolve queries raised by internal and external stakeholders

  • Assist with the recording of royalties and timely submission of accompanying data

  • Perform bank reconciliations and raising payment runs as required

Experience / skills required:

  • Strong numerical skills

  • Previous experience/enthusiasm for Purchase Ledger
