Senior Designer, Crime and Thriller

Could you re-design the crime and thriller market?

As the fastest growing fiction genre in the UK, there is more opportunity than ever to reach new audiences with our stellar list of crime and thriller authors - Tim Weaver, M.J. Arlidge, Nicci French, Julia Heaberlin, Claire Douglas and James Oswald are just some of our bestsellers.

Engaging, creative, and commercially-focussed book design will be crucial to how we do that, with the chance to be creative with different styles and push boundaries from what’s been done before.

As Senior Designer, working across this genre for Michael Joseph and Penguin General, your mission will be to do just that, and take our crime and thriller publishing to new heights.

We need someone with a solid background designing within the crime and thriller genre. You’ll lend your knowledge of this market to the role as well as excellent design (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and typographic skills.

You may be at Designer level looking for a step up, or at this level already looking for a new challenge. What’s important is that you have plenty of imagination and drive to do things differently. You’ll bring your new ideas to life and be creatively ambitious with each cover you create.

You’ll work closely with the publishing teams so being able to connect with people and communicate well is important. You’ll also be resilient, able to take feedback, but also influence where you need to.

Please apply with a CV, letter as well as 3 samples of your work in this genre by Friday 6th January.

Are you looking for the next step in your career in Sales Operations?

Following an in-house promotion, we have an exciting opportunity to take on the new role of Random House Sales Operations Manager.

Reporting to the UK Sales Director, this senior role, which works across all 4 adult Random House publishing divisions, you’ll be the link between UK Sales, Inventory Management, TBS and Finance.

This is a highly customer-facing role as a key part of the Sales Operations team and your role will be an important interface in the supply chain getting our books to our customers in the right quantity and on time. You will also be the face and voice of Sales Operations to a select number of key customers for overarching Penguin Random House meetings and strategies.

That means that you’ll be immersed in the sales of all 4 adult Random House adult publishing divisions as an expert in your field and will share crucial insight around retailer forecasting. You’ll also get to know the publishing, the priorities and the sales strategies for each list in order to oversee key decision-making in the Sales Operations arena.

You’ll do this all in close partnership with Key Account Managers and other Sales colleagues and you’ll have a counter-part based at 80 Strand who you’ll partner closely with to create a consistent experience across the organisation.

You’ll also play an important role in leading your team of five Sales Operations Co-ordinators who have the dedicated responsibility for the UK key accounts in arranging the processing of orders, sorting invoice and retro claims as well as a number of other important administrative tasks.

You’ll create an environment where your team are motivated and skilled to do their best work and providing the best possible service to our customers and our business.

This role will suit someone with a relevant background in Sales Operations in a publishing, media or retail environment.

Being highly organised with strong people skills will come with the territory as well as excellent numeracy and data management skills. You’ll work with different systems in this role too, so being highly IT literate will also play an important part in your success.

Finally, given your team responsibilities, you’ll have experience with people management, able to motivate and lead individuals to success.

If this sounds like your perfect next step, please apply with a CV and covering letter by Monday 19th December.
