Hachette Children’s Group [HCG] is seeking an experienced publicity professional, with a proven background in publishing, established contacts in the media, and experience in handling all aspects of book PR.
You will plan, implement and drive effective publicity campaigns for Hachette Children’s Group and maximise trade and consumer awareness of HCG’s high-profile books, authors, illustrators, brands and company as directed by the Head of PR.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a talented team at a leading children’s publisher. You will have a keen interest in children’s publishing.
You’ll be working with best-selling picture book and fiction authors and illustrators and licensed brands across the Hachette Children’s Group, including Cressida Cowell, Kes Gray and Jim Field, Lauren Child, Dermot O’Leary, Francesca Simon, Alex T. Smith, Rainbow Magic, Beast Quest and Pokémon to name but a few.
The role:
- As publicist, you will be responsible for planning, presenting, implementing and reporting on the effectiveness of PR campaigns, for all key titles
- Manage individual title campaign budgets
- Work closely with other departments to ensure campaigns are integrated and complementary
- Work closely and collaboratively with authors, illustrators and licensors to co-ordinate publicity and media activities
- Foster outstanding relationships with the media (print, broadcast and online) to secure reviews, competitions, features and interviews to promote HCG’s authors, illustrators and brands
- Liaise with authors, illustrators, agents and licensors, keeping them updated with PR plans, activity and coverage
- Draft press releases, media pitches Q&As and other promotional copy
- Effectively communicate with internal stakeholders on all aspects of publicity
- Support Head of PR and Group Communications Director in the department’s strategy and creative direction
- Co-ordinate and implement events for HCG (within agreed budget) to promote our books, authors, illustrators and brands, helping to drive sales
- Manage relationships with key literary festivals, conferences, bookshops and libraries
- Travel with authors and attend a range of events
- Help deliver the Hachette Children’s Group awards strategy, in conjunction with the PR team
- Stay informed about new marketing and publicity insights, developments and opportunities
- Work collaboratively with the wider PR team.
Skills, knowledge and experience:
- Substantial experience in publicity of books
- Strong understanding of how to create and execute effective and successful campaigns
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Experience of organising events including launch dinners, parties, stunts, festivals as well as author tours, bookshop, school and library events
- Demonstrable, creative interpersonal, presentation and organisational qualities
- A strong network across the publishing industry and excellent relationships with relevant reviewers, children’s press, parenting press, bloggers and other news contacts
- Outstanding social media and digital marketing skills
- A passion and knowledge for children’s publishing
