A leading academic publisher, based in London, is looking to appoint an experienced Commissioning Editor to look after their highly reputable Business & Management books list.

Fundamental to this position will be the building of strong author relationships, ensuring that your books fulfil their sales potential while enhancing the company’s reputation as a successful and innovative publisher of business and management textbooks.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and monitor the backlist.
  • Provide creative support to authors
  • Present projects at the Editorial Board meeting for approval.
  • Identify current and future market trends.
  • Recruit authors to write new titles and new editions from an agreed hitlist.

As Commissioning Editor, you will be the ‘champion’ of business and management publishing and will also supervise the work of an Editorial Assistant. Using your project management skills, you will manage products from early stages through to publication.

You will have a proven track record in adding value to a publishing programme and a strong understanding of both market conditions and academic publishing.

You will need to have excellent commercial experience while your experience of using market research to inform and shape product development will be important.

In this important role, you will need to be a ‘self-starter’, brilliant at finding new authors and able to build relationships with key figures in business and management. You will also have fantastic influencing skills allowing you to gain ‘buy-in’ from colleagues in editorial, marketing and sales.

In this role, you will hit agreed sales revenue targets and will manage key relationships with major industry vendors. Using your skills and experience, you will be responsible for ensuring that licenses, contracts and sales models are made on commercially beneficial terms for the company.

Using your excellent relationship management and influencing skills, you will work with colleagues to ensure that metadata quality and discoverability of e-book content is strong. Additionally, your internal communication and advocacy skills will be important in ensuring sales strategy and models are agreed on with key internal stakeholders.

Reporting to the Head of Channel Sales you will also:

  • Provide territory budgets and explain the rationale for budgeting decisions.
  • Attend the London and Frankfurt Book Fairs, to meet with key customers.
  • Work with Channel and Ebook Sales Executive and IT to ensure that vendors receive timely and comprehensive metadata on all ebook product.
  • Represent the sales team on digital products at internal meetings.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Library Sales and the Library Sales team globally.

A high level of sales, communication, presentation and negotiating skills are vital to this position while you must also be able to demonstrate sound business judgement around digital products and models.

You will need to have an equally high level of initiative, strong financial and budgetary skills and an understanding of the importance of accurate data. Some knowledge of BIC, BISAC and ONIX would be extremely advantageous.

Production Project Manager - Print Production

We have a fantastic role for an experienced print production professional to work for a highly successful publisher based in London.  Working as part of the Print Production Team and the Buying and Operations Teams you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a smooth supply chain on all E-Com and Direct Mail orders. The production team have full responsibility for all print buying and this role will have a pivotal role in fully managing the process.  This role does not involve managing staff.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the supply chain from file supply to printer to delivery of finished product
  • Work closely with Editorial and Marketing  ensuring new orders are produced to correct specification and schedule
  • Ensuring schedules are managed and met
  • Creating and updating budgets and manage costs
  • Overall responsibility for the management of key print/finishing related issues based on requirements for a specific territory
  • Visiting suppliers to check work is carried out correctly
  • Responsibility for finishing, including supplying dummies for internal approval and logistical planning of delivery of components, the finishing process with pre-production samples for approval through to final collection/delivery to Distribution

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in print production (print buying and/or finishing/packaging, rather than pre-press)
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and meeting deadlines
  • Highly organised with strong admin skills
  • Highly proficient MS Office and the ability to prioritise, and organise your workload and manage multiple tasks concurrently

PURPOSE
As Business Development Manager you will be a key part of the commercial team managing the Jobs in Books platform across print, online, social media, events and email whilst contributing to monthly targets and KPIs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be the key contact for all companies looking to advertise their jobs with Jobs in Books. You will build strong relationships with long standing and valued clients as well as welcoming new advertisers to the platform, ensuring that they are aware of all the advertising options that we offer and how our process works. This is a varied role where you will maintain the Jobs in Books website, upload job adverts online, meet weekly magazine deadlines, manage the @JobsinBooks twitter account and execute the weekly Jobs email. You will also be responsible for championing the Jobs in Books platform to job seekers at events, university visits, talks, through blogs and other initiatives, giving you freedom to be creative and bring new ideas to the table.
