Our client, the publishing division of a world leading professional institute and membership body, is looking for a Commissioning Editor to join their Digital Learning and Development team to commission content and assessments for the Publisher’s new online and mobile initiative.

Reporting to the Head of Digital Learning and Development, the main responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the digital learning market
  • Developing a content plan in conjunction with academic and corporate content partners
  • Commissioning learning/development content agreed with the Head of Digital Learning
  • Working with the Advisory Board to ensure correct content coverage and quality
  • Identifying/commissioning/signing content development partners in academia and industry
  • Project management to achieve commissioning targets/content delivery deadlines
  • Ensuring that key stakeholders are kept up-to-date and informed of Academy developments
  • Identifying learning/development needs in the STM marketplace
  • Developing/maintaining a network of contacts in the STM community
  • Ensuring quality content is delivered/published on time and is suitable for online and mobile
  • Collaborating with Project Management, Sales, and Marketing to ensure timely production.

The successful candidate will have solid publishing experience combined with a solid track record in commissioning content and publishing to time and to budget. Evidence of commissioning content for either educational or online and mobile formats is essential, as is a proven ability to meet and/or exceed commissioning targets. You will be a self-starter, who is enthusiastic and be able to identify opportunities in order to deliver pipeline. You will be able to work to tight deadlines, have excellent time-management skills and have a willingness to travel. Experience working within STM publishing would be an advantage.

The International Sales team, Exclusive Markets, works with affiliates and sister companies in North America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. The Exclusive Markets group is part of a wider international team who sell the list into various territories across the globe.

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Sales Manager to sell our list into Canada, South Africa and India for a fixed term contract of 10 months. This manager will be the primary contact for these important territories, managing the day to day relationship across all three. The role reports into the International Sales Director, Exclusive Markets, and will be responsible for executing a successful strategy within those regions, driving sales on both frontlist and backlist across all imprints in both print and digital. This job will involve collaborating with the respective local teams, agreeing on targets and priorities, while helping to coordinate marketing and publicity plans.

There is also a significant internal function within this role, supporting the Director with the Pan Publishing (Fiction, Non-fiction, Mantle) meetings to grow sales of these imprints across the entire international group.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and possess excellent negotiation and presentation skills. Previous sales experience is required as well as knowledge of the publishing industry. Familiarity with trends and opportunities within these markets is a priority.

This is an exciting and dynamic role which is integral to the reputation and ongoing success of the International Sales Team.

Role Responsibilities

CREATIVE

  • Editorially guide and coordinate own books in line with the editorial and creative briefs, making sure all files are coordinated through the correct approval workflow for the team
  • Research, write, copy-edit, proofread and sign-off on a wide range of books across different formats and novelties to make the best product possible
  • Make sure all files are editorially accurate and to the required quality during all stages – final files, plotter and advance stages
  • Make sure all Templar books are produced to house style and fulfil the in-house brief
  • Research and suggest ideas for the future publishing list, showing awareness of marketplace and trends, and focusing on backlist opportunities
  • Develop strong relationships with authors, agents and contributors
  • Play an active part with the team in new idea discussions, commissioning and acquiring titles

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain and manage the WIP publishing programme, tracking title schedules and milestones with members of the creative team, ensuring close adherence to the company critical paths
  • Chair the weekly WIP meeting with Editorial and Production and follow up on queries
  • Ensure book fair and sales conference sales materials are prepared in a timely manner
  • Ensure editors’ pre-acq P&Ls are prepared for the mid-point review and take in amendments
  • Project-manage a range of books, of appropriate number and complexity
  • Project-manage books in partnership with Design and Production, making sure key milestones are kept to and final files are supplied on time
  • Liaise and manage 3rd-parties, including packagers, illustrators, authors and other freelance agents that are needed to create a project, as well as our US partner, Candlewick Press
  • Problem-solve and/or escalate problems in the correct manner and in good time to allow schedules to be hit
  • Mentor and instruct the other members of the team and make sure departmental goals are achieved
  • Any other adhoc duties as assigned, including maintaining Biblio information and writing information sheets
  • Draw up editorial project budgets and P&Ls for approval by the Publishing and Creative Director and negotiate fees with freelance staff
  • Attend and present at regular new acquisitions meetings and sales meetings
  • Work with the team to produce appropriate sales material including cover copy, marketing and material for bookfairs
  • Communicate Company and Department Goals to the Creative Team

Key duties:

  • Follow briefs to produce high quality design work for cover and interiors of illustrated books
  • Check design work, ensuring it is consistent and accurate and files are ready to print

Role

An entirely new position, reporting to the UK and Ireland Sales Director, the role will be to support with key existing customers, and focus would be on identifying new business opportunities. Working with the commercial teams globally to build print runs and adapting to suit different customer needs.

Responsibilities

Visit new and existing customers, presenting and developing publishing programmes. Identify new opportunities and grow current business, Forecasting for print runs and P&L’s. Dealing with a wide customer base including High Street, Non-trade, Clearance, Book Clubs and some online business

Attributes

Experience in a New Business Development role or Key Account Management. You may already have experience in Sales Management or want to move up in the next stage of your career. Should be familiar with developing promotional programmes with major retailers, including development of Point of Sale material.

Would best suit a self-motivated candidate with the ability to multi task, excellent communication skill and who is results driven. You must have the ability to work independently as well as part of a large international team.

Account Manager - Subscriptions

We have a brilliant new role for an Account Manager with independent Scientific journals publisher in London. The role manages all existing subscriptions to their prestigious list of scientific journals.These are a mix of open access and traditional journals.

The journals are driven by high quality and many are high impact factor journals. They are all created in house and alongside this they are publishing thousands of articles each year. These are then sold via subscriptions to Academic Institutions and libraries globally.

The role of the account manager is keep an eye on the usage reports and make sure each subscriber is using the subscription and journals regularly and if not will then liaise with marketing department to encourage more usage throughout the year. Each activity the account manager will undertake will be pointed to maximum usage to ensure that the subscriptions are renewed at the end of the year.

This is a fantastic role for someone proactive, who enjoys analysing data and working well within a team to increase renewals and usage. It would suit someone who has completed an entry level role in publishing and now looking to move into a role where they can grow and develop with an entrepreneurial business.

Must haves:

·Highly organised and productive
·Self-motivated - driven and enthusiastic
·Analytical - interested in figures, results and being able to draw conclusions from data (training will also be given)
·Communication - able to communicate confidently and accurately internally and externally
·Confident
·Customer orientated - love and focus on delivering great customer service
·Interested in Client facing and sales roles
·ANy experience in sales or account management would be beneficial though not essential

You will ideally have knowledge of scholarly or scientific publishing or libraries.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic and proactive individual looking to take a step into sales. This role involves various support activities, as well as email and telephone promotion and selling of online training courses to decision-makers at universities in the UK and Ireland.

Responsibilities will include:

    •    Researching potential customer names and profiling individuals.

    •    Event administration, organisation and follow-up.

    •    Supporting and occasionally attending events and small conferences across the region.

    •    Quoting subscription customers.

    •    Selling subscription renewals.

    •    Identifying and researching potential subscription consortia and national subscription deals.

    •    Helping to identify successful subscription renewal case studies and subscriber evangelists.

    •    Providing an outstanding level of customer support and care.

    •    Keeping accurate and up to date sales records via Salesforce CRM system.

    •    Reporting to the Senior Academic Partnership Manager to ensure all set objectives are met.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

    •    Education to undergraduate degree level or equivalent.

    •    Ability to work as a team player.

    •    Confidence in dealing with customers by phone.
