We are looking for a temporary Commissioning Editor to work in this key role where you will be responsible for the commissioning of new products in medieval and early modern history and the history of political thought whilst managing a prestigious list of existing titles and working to grow the Cambridge market share worldwide.

Production Editor for its production department.

 

Our Scholarly Division is one of the largest, most established
publishers of academic monographs and has a focused international
journals and reference programme within the humanities, social sciences
and business.

 

The Production team focuses on supporting a number of interfacing teams
in the delivery of numerous individual projects that make up the overall
publishing plan. As such this role would suit someone who combines a
strong eye for detail and accuracy with an open-minded and
solution-focused approach. It will appeal to someone who enjoys being
involved in the creation of content and is comfortable managing multiple
projects simultaneously.

 

You will -

 

• Ensure delivery of titles to budget, time and quality
• Check completeness of materials and content of unedited manuscripts
• Appoint and coordinate external project managers, copy-editors, proofreaders, indexers and typesetters
• Maintain schedules and budgets and ensure that production data in all
systems is correct and up to date, liaising with authors and editors to
keep them informed of progress
• Oversee initial estimating and subsequent sign-off costs
• Pass files to print and digital delivery systems; issue print orders as required
• Provide support for the upload of content to digital asset management system and distribution to vendors
• Ensure print titles deliver and release successfully, check quality of advance copies, distribute advance copies as required

 

And you must have -

 

• Production experience, preferably gained within an academic publishing environment
• Experience of pre-press and copy-editing
• Good knowledge of working with offshore suppliers
• Excellent numeracy and literacy skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel
• Some knowledge of electronic file formats and digital production technology

 

This role will initially be based in Basingstoke, moving to London in January 2015.

 

Applicants must have an existing right to live and work in the United
Kingdom. The level of appointment will be commensurate with experience.

Our client, a leading STM publisher in central London is looking to recruit an experienced Sales Executive with excellent customer service skills.  You will develop and manage the sales of printed books working with book trade, academic and corporate institutions worldwide.

 

Key duties:

  • Assist the Publishing Sales Manager in developing publishing sales strategy
  • Manage agents, distributors and book sales representatives
  • Formulate, negotiate and successfully agree sales proposals
  • Undertake market research when necessary
  • Assist in conceptualisation and development of new publishing products
  • Report on, monitor and forecast financial performance for the year
  • Manage budgets in line with expenditure

 

Experience / skills required:

  • Experience of STM book sales markets
  • Proven track record in book sales
  • Solid understanding of the library market
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • International travel required

The Publisher will be responsible for the editorial strategy, acquisition and management of a programme of major reference works and new online reference modules as well as managing a team of acquisitions editors, each with an individual portfolio. The Publisher will be responsible for the overall growth plan for the program, directly managing and supporting acquisitions editors on ensuring their portfolios are managed to support growth and identify and optimise key opportunities. With a strong market understanding the successful candidate will have the tools to build a strong network of relevant contacts and utilise these contacts when pursuing publishing partnerships in order to acquire, develop and publish commercially attractive products across print and digital.

 

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in managing large, complex publishing projects with demonstrable experience in scientific publishing. The Publisher will have a strong track record of negotiating new publishing partnerships, and ideally acquisitions experience. Financial planning and analytical ability are essential, as are commercial and strategic awareness, business management skill and strong communication skills. The successful candidate will be confident in developing academic and professional networks as well as being able to implement a flexible approach to content and business models in an ever changing market. Management experience is essential as the Publisher will be responsible for 3 direct and 3 indirect reports. Applicants must have a degree or equivalent ideally within a scientific field.

This company, renowned for excellence in research and scholarship, requires a skilled Project Manager to oversee digital development and production for the ELT list, ensuring projects run on time and to schedule with a constant focus on ensuring the output is market-leading.

 

The successful candidate will negotiate and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, train up team members and manage teams working online across editorial, development and tester technology. They will work towards best practice and principles at all times and towards delivering tailored solutions for users.

 

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with demonstrable project management experience and expertise in creating and shaping concept for digital products.
